Agenda

On September 21st, 2010, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada announced the Open Government Resolution, profoundly changing how agencies are expected to provide information to the public, and how they should interact with them in a more collaborative manner, using Open Data and Web 2.0 technologies to implement new models of E-Democracy.

The objective of this session was to provide a high level introduction to these concepts of where and how G-Cloud overlapped with Open Data Government.

Neil McEvoy, Founder, Cloud Best Practices NetworkNeil McEvoy introduced that OGCC is logically made up of two main parts, i) Open Government, and ii) Cloud Computing, and that our session is split into these two parts.

To begin the session Neil will highlight the role that Cloud Computing can play in stimulating the economy, through what Cisco call a ‘Next Generation Cluster‘.

Open Government

Our Open Government session introduced the fundamental concepts of new Government models and ways of embracing citizen participation through social media.

  Nik Garkusha, Open Platforms Lead at Microsoft CanadaThe Canadian Open Government Resolution requires that agencies publish more Open Data and offer more Open and collaborative ways of working with the public. Nik Garkusha is Microsoft’s lead expert in this area, and will describe how these needs can be met through an ‘Open Government Platform of the Future’.

G-Cloud Computing

The objective of our second session was then to explain what role Government Cloud Computing (G-Cloud) might play in enabling these new Open Data ways of working.

 
Andy MacLeod, Head of Public Sector, Cisco UKAndy will describe an overview of how the UK Cabinet Office is approaching the adoption of Cloud Computing through their ‘G-Cloud initiative’.
